Inside Those Boots
In the halls,
I am the girl in boots
the girl who smiles as she walks by
the girl who stops as your books topple to the floor.
What they see is a country girl,
stubborn as a mule
proud like the farmer with a successful harvest
strong as a thousand men
refreshing as a dip in the creek
sweet as a just ripe apple from the tree
as helpful as a steady rain in a drought.
What they do not see,
is the heartache and the emotional strain
that she carries with her everyday
they can not see the scars on her heart
that she keeps so carefully hidden.
All they see are those dusty boots
that just keep walkin'
no matter what socks she is wearin'
