Just a smile is all it takes

Location

Like robots, bodies fill the halls

Lifeless, uncaring, unseeing about those they pass

So many people, heads hung low with lips turned down

Others move in groups of two or more

not caring or seeng the lone passers by

Concerned only with the "I"

The sadness oozes from their souls

these single movers through the halls

No connection made, no thought given

to these lonely passers by

from the groups concerned only with the "I"

It is such a simple act

to lift your eyes, meet their gaze

and send a smile back their way

as if to say you are not alone

you matter much, and then they're gone

And to the next lone soul I see

I just smile to let them know they matter to me

You're not alone don' t you see!

And so the days turn into months

It cost me not, it didn't hurt

To catch "ones" eye and smile big

and see a nod that they do give

Fills my soul with warmth and joy

from those lonely passers by.
