Things I Carry
Location
I carry an abundance of things
Some chosen, others obligations,
A mind saturated wth memories
A soul captivated by another's,
I carry a JanSport backpack
With a tear on the tag,
Where I pick and pry
When I become stressed or nervous,
In my backpack I carry notes and letters,
Chapstick and blush,
Pencils and markers,
Glasses and contact solution,
Notes: for when I need to study
Letters: for when I want to remember jokes my friends write to me
Chapstick: for when the weather gets cold and my lip become dry
Blush: for when I feel I need a splash of color
Pencils: for when I need to write something to remember
Markers: for when I want to draw
Glasses: for when I want to see
Contact solution: for when my eyes are in need of moisture
I carry happiness
Show on a mouth that is free to smile,
Free to express,
On eyes that have seen
Things I don't want to forget,
Eyes that are not afraid to shut because I know that I am safe,
I carry support
From my family and my friends,
Who pick me up when I am down
And keep me from drowning in grief and sorrow,
A family who challenges me,
Gives me responsibility,
Loves me,
Friends who lift my spirits,
Make me laugh,
Allow me to be myself,
I carry love,
Love for my family,
Love for my friends,
Love for my school,
Love for my God
I carry a bible,
White leather with gold engravings,
A bible that I can go to when I feel lost
A bible that I can go to when I feel scared,
I carry a religion
Consisting of a church I can run to when things turn for the worse,
Followers who are there to support and relate,
A religion I am proud to say is mine,
I attempt to carry as much as I can
Physical, emotional,
Concrete, abstract,
Things that are necessary, and others that are not,
The thing is,
These things that I carry,
Are all things I want to carry,
Because they are what make me, me.
