You loved me like a father
You cared for me like a mother
You showed me love like no other.
You took me in like a son
Adopted me to your own
Even when I felt abandoned
You never left me alone.
How is it
I have three dads
Yet I feel one sided
I'm a great daughter
Or at least I thought
Is it that impossible
To love a girl that is lost
I've tried everything I could
Celebrating my second and seventeenth birthday, and those in between, all I could think of was my pale green eyes meeting that of yours, aquamarine. Father-daughter dances, full of stumbly shuffles, and my feet on yoursWe chanted all the words to
There stand some marks upon her arm,
Voluntary strikes in black and blue,
Words that comfort, words that declare
In simple script, “Because I love you.”

Like a child, I will believe every word you say no matter how ridiculous it may sound.
And every time someone tries to convince me otherwise I will interupt them with "but my Daddy said..."
One. Dear Father
Yes,
yes Father technically
specifically
this is a
girl’s bracelet,
this piece of jewelry
leather with gold
that I wear on my wrist
with hard won pride
Nothing means more to me than my life,
Nothing means more to me than my family,
Nothing means more to me than my sister,
Nothing means more to me than my parents,
Nothing means more to me than my father,
November 26, 2006 was the last day I got to see my father alive. How does a son suppose to cope not seeing his father around? Reality punched me in my face when I saw your casket put underground. I can feel that inevitable lump in my throat.
