Second best

Was it necessary
For you to remind me
Of what I already know
Of what is plain to see?
I already know
I'm not his first choice
This repetitive news
Doesn't make me rejoice
This heart was full of love for you,
Though you never took a sip.
It overflowed until the spring ran
Dry and all that was left were broken
Memories in the form of dust around
You'll always be second best
You'll always be just a pretty face
You'll always be someone to be seen, not heard
They tell me what I am, they say who I should be
"Women shouldn't think, that's not what they're for."
Second’s the best and first is the worst
I think that line is a comeback
For people who couldn’t reach the pack
Not first like they wanted
But second, so they flaunt it
