So suddenly, I was swept away
Floating above all the mayhem
Trying to make sense of the pages your wrote in my story
Remember when I was born?
Remember when we went to Las Vegas?
Remember when we went to Chicago,
Dear Dad,
I hear about you often.
I hear you loved me very much. I hear that you were an amazing man.
I hear that you loved my mother more than any other.
But all I ever do is listen.
Dear Dad,
I never thought I’d be writing you.
Dear Dad,
I never thought you’d be gone.
Dear Dad,
There was so much left for us to say.
Dear Dad,
There was so much more to be done.
Dear Dad
It wasn’t supposed to be this way
I was supposed to hug you one more time
Be able to look at you face so long it was memorized
I should have been able to have your arms wrapped around me
