My mom always said I had thunder thighs so I grew up my whole childhood squishing my thighs and looking at hers and my sisters and seeing that I had the biggest thighs. I did have thunder thighs.
Today I watched a wasp try to carry her egg all the way across the garden bed.
It’s weight dragged her down, so she left the babe
Came atop a flower, wiped off her legs
And flew away
I mourn my ignorance
I grieve it almost as much as
the news
of the parasite in your breast:
The life bringing death
just opposite your heart.
The heart I listen for
as I lay down to sleep--
Dear Mom, why do you hate me?
Is it because of secrets that have come out lately?
That I do not love the same way you do,
Or do not follow religion as if by voodoo?
My inspiration,
sense of dedication.
My drive
and the way that I Strive,
All came from a woman
heart soft like a cushion
My mother taught me valuable things. She taught me to treat everyone as equals whether they clean the toilets or sit in a shiny new office on the top floor.
“Mother Mentor”
To be as a friends,
To be as family,
When times were tough,
I couldn’t take her for granted.
My mom is super. Super for understanding.
Super for not being so demanding.
Plays an important role in my life.
Strong and determined to fight for what's right.
Honest to a fault. No fault of her own.
