the twin hardships

tundra.
They often starve
when game is scarce
and the hunt
has gone badly.
And if these sufferings
They are thoroughly domesticated-
and some unfortunates
are driven to the point of cowering.
They will gladly beg
for a bone
and to receive table scraps-
is to be in Heaven.
