Poems from shewithwords
My Name is Amina. Simple, Plain, and Different. I've been walking the Earth a total of 20 years. I don't know everything. I never follow fashion trends. I tend to instead set my own. People usually have dumb misconceptions of me. I'm generally nice, and only mean when I have to be. I don't follow everybody's expectations of me. I pretty much fail at pleasing people. I am no where near perfect. But for me that's okay. Being un perfect makes me who I am. I make mistakes everyday, but I learn from them. I love to meet new people. People just generally interest me. As long as you give me respect, you'll get it.
I stand there,
taking your hateful, tasteless stares.
But I don't dare cringe,
for I fear that would be giving you what you want.
I walk...
My body pushes breath from my lungs.
It’s a forceful breath of course.
Because I don’t want to breathe.
I don’t want to show any ounce of...
I stand utterly bruised,
not defeated, just bruised.
I've come into battle with the conflict of words,
the conflict of unjust actions, and...
Society, Society, Society
It whispers in my ear
Leaves it stings
And never fails
Using me as its target
Its destructive but elusive...
Unlike you,
my copper skin glazes in the sun.
And my almond eyes twinkle.
Unlike you,
I sweat the fruits of my labor,
and make my living...
