You Only Write Once for This Scholarship Poetry Slam

I carry with me my Cladaugh ring
The one my Daddy gave me
To remind me that Heaven's not too far
From a Daddy and a baby girl.

I carry with me my Mother's sweater
The one she had when she was young
To remind me you're never too old to ask for help
And mothers never run out of hugs.

I carry with me the strength of my sisters
The two who never give up
Determination is what makes you strong
Love is what makes you happy.

I carry with me my own burdens, my pain and my troubles.
I carry with me heartache, jealousy and loneliness.
But whatever I carry, I carry with my family
Because I know they carry me, too.
