You Are My Summer
When it’s bleak outside
When the storm clouds cast an unquenchable darkness
When the drops of rain fly to the windows and cascade down
When the ground is slushy and damp
When lightning flickers and thunder grumbles
When the world is in a cold death
You are my sign of life
You are my signal of hope
Your smile is the sun that casts out dark gray
Your steady breath calms the rolling thunder
You are warm, immediate comfort
You are the weakening of my knees
You are the rapid beating of my heart
You are the uncontrollable smile creeping on my face
You are the palm trees,
Blowing which-way in the balmy breeze
But you are rooted.
You are the push and pull of the crystal clear ocean
The cleansing feeling of the cold, crisp water
Rushing over my toes in the sand
You are my happiness
You are my Hibiscus flower
My conch shell
My cone-full of melted ice cream
When life gives me storm clouds,
You are my summer.
When the dampness of rain overtakes me,
You keep me dry.
