YES, I SEE THEM!
I
And I see them
When I least expect it
On visiting the VA,
One might be wearing a cap
Saying Vietnam Veteran.
II
Yes, I see them!
Another might wear a cap
Saying Veteran of World War II or Korea.
A few might wear a patch saying "Veteran"
Of the war they were part of.
Some might look older than their years.
III
Yes, I see them!
Marching in different parades
And they're might proud of the service.
They did, but they might never talk.
To just anybody.
About what they did in any war.
Because it's not talk.
For polite company.
IV
Yes, I see them!
Rendering honors
To other veterans
At their funerals.
V
Yes, I see them!
At the VA
Some missing limbs.
Others not able to walk.
Are in wheel chairs.
A few might use crutches.
Or a cane.
Some being aided.
By another veteran.
Because we understand.
What cause their injuries.
VI
Yes, I see them!
Slowly they are leaving us.
And the nation,
Hardly notices their passing...
VII
Yes! I see them!
Folding an American Flag
To present to a widow.
VIII
Yes, I see them!
When a widow gets an American Flag
As tribute to their service.
And we will never FORGET...
