A Year's Past

Change ripples and fluctuates like the river
Without reason or warning before
But should you stand and shiver?
Or will you be hungry for more?

State to state
School to school
Friends are left behind
To tend to the constant souls

The inconstant variable is left to wander
In a strange new place again
Time alone to sit and wonder
What should have happened then

Lovers found and lost like leaves
Falling to the ground
Just out of reach
Just out of the way 'round

Grief fills a shattered mind
A desire to fill what's gone
Turning to people who are kind
Knowing it won't be long

For time will take its path, its dues
Before the night is out
You've two options left dear one
Shall you rise to the challenge?
Or shall you sit and pout?
