The Writer

I’ve spent the last 13 years trying to discover who I am

And what it is I want to spend the rest of my life doing.

Each year, it tosses around in my brain like a battering ram.

“Who am I, who will I be, what am I pursuing?”

It wasn’t until two years back

That I discovered the root of my passion.

I remembered my true knack,

Writing as a young girl during a time so ashen.

I've decided to compose my work again,

Writing daily and with ease.

I carry my journal and lucky pen

Everywhere it seems.

Today I’m still writing and following my path,

Overcoming all the obstacles and bracing myself

To fully accept and expect the wrath

That awaits and watches me like a doll on a shelf.

If I could have one job,

I would be a writer.

I’ll overcome the obstacles, and even if I sob,

It will be worth it, for my life will shine brighter.

I would write until the light of dawn,

And I would be happier than I’ve ever been,

And as I make coffee and take a big yawn,

I will sleepily look at my finished novel, and grin.
