Wrinkled Wisdom

Location

In the beginning life was simple.

Those golden years before dating and pimples

Hot, Lumpy Oatmeal for breakfast

Tainted souls ate first and innocents tasted last

Followed by the single file three block walk to school

First life lesson to all, growing up is cruel

Mothers no longer come to aid in child proof shoes

Second life lesson, always double knot loopy loo’s

Life’s next lesson was conquering our fear of each other,

Soon to be followed by “Don’t make me get my older brother”

Then the fear of failure is handed out in forms of gram crackers and a spot to nap

Kindergarten also provided unwanted training wheels of societies social class trap

Richest, Rich, Upper-Middle, Middle, Borderline Jumper, Poor, Dirt Poor

Meanwhile a field trip to the museum offered nightmares of the Cold War

Nervous Break downs were distracted by false hope of hidden treasure

Grandma’s suitcase wrapped inside a garbage bag taught the feeling of displeasure

Old pictures, a video tape and poor penmanship letters

If a bomb dropped and that suitcase survived, the world would be better

The time capsule would also serve as a keepsake on graduation day

Congratulations! Adulthood arrived and is here to stay

The life line between past and present is still a missing mystery

All that remains is the memory turned into history

With aging bones and graying hair, life has many lessons to share

Look for the elderly deep in thought sitting on a metal folding chair

“What hardships did you face during your younger years?”

Answered by a toothless grin, “War, nukes, scandals, and a shortage of beers”

Technology, leadership, economics, and younger generations have changed

However we face the same hardships and experience the same fears.
