In this world that we live in how do we survive
Incessantly reminded that at any moment we could die
With the pressure of society, discrimination of all kinds
When the weak are used and abused by the rich and mighty
Who seem unconcerned, oblivious to the pain they leave behind
In this world that we live in its become a struggle just to exist
To stay true to ourselves, and not give in to the violence
To know who we truly are and not feel the need to hide it
To hold tight to our dreams even when its a fight
And not become like Hughes said "a broken winged bird that cannot fly"
In this world that we live in we need to work hard and reach for the skies
Yet so many are reluctant to attempt that climb
Never believing they could possibly succeed
So afraid of failure that they never even bother to try

How do we discover the strength to rise every time we fall
How do we become individuals when we're so pressured to fit in
How do we stop relying on others and find that courage, that spark, that flame
