The World I See

Location

Those who selfishly indulged in bailouts
Instead of going bankrupt,
Who refurnished their lavish offices,
Bought new gas guzzling cars and
Expensive second homes with their
Tax breaks and bonuses,
While the economic world around them
Crumbled,
Crashed,
and Collided
With the pavement,
The pavement which they
Stand on
Unaffected,
In Suede shoes holding briefcases,

Those who work
Two,
Three,
Four or more jobs
To make ends meet,
To feed their families,
Provide a roof overhead,
And give themselves a future
Even though unemployment,
Tax, and interest rates
Are soaring – Sky High

Those who still obsessively
Label,
Categorize,
and Compartmentalize
People depending on

class,

income,

shade of skin,

gender,

politics,

religion,

And worst of all,
By who someone simply
Loves
Behind closed doors,
We choke on isolation inside our assigned boxes,
Taped
Shut
By
Judgment,
Shadowed by
Hypocrisy,

Those who are denied
Health care coverage by
Corporations,
Not by doctors, due to preexisting conditions
Despite our dire medical needs
And because of preconceived
Socialist,
No
Wait,
Communist connotations,
We watch our own people die daily instead of
Reaching out to help them,
What happened to
‘First Do No Harm?’, or
‘Love Thy Neighbor as Thyself?’

Those who witness and experience first hand
Our flawed education system,
The dramatic increase in tuition,
The double-edged blade of tenure,
The terrible method of teaching to a test,
The constant cutting of art and music programs or clubs in grade schools,
Which transcends the
Lying message
To our youth
To our Future:
Creative Minds Will Not Prosper,

Those who trash and burn
Through the resources of this world
With Greedy consumption,
Throwing garbage behind us in the wind,
We Drill,
Oil Spill,
We Kill,
And Still
We Do Not Change,
We will not escape until it is – too late,
Meanwhile,
Mother Earth is dying

Those who are a ‘Live-out-Loud’ generation,
While globalization
Wraps it’s tight,
Sticky Internet web around us,
Sucking out all of our most personal information,
We trust everyone in this world
With our likes, dislikes, statuses, hobbies, dreams, and goals,
Meanwhile, 32 different regions of this world
Stand By
With their hostile fingers
Hovering above the button to deploy,
Weapons
of
Mass
Destruction,

Those who start wars with each other,
Fly planes into buildings,
Drop bombs
And strap explosives on to
Trains, Cars, Men, Women, and
Children
In the name of their God,
Instilling a constant element of Fear,
We look over our shoulders,
In airports we stop,
Get frisked,
Get blasted with a dose of radiation and
Scanned
Down
To our
Undergarments,
Will it ever be safe to travel?

Those who listen to and
Entrust our Future
In politicians that feed us empty promises,
Hasty generalizations,
Slander,
And twisted truths for
Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner,
While we vote for the Lesser of two Evils,
Sit back,
Watch them fail
Or run out of time because of
Congress’s
Filibustering,
Vetoing
Child’s-play,
We then turn our heads,
Point fingers,
And play the Blame Game – once again,
Even though
We
Were the
Ones that
Voted,

Those who
Finally
Opened their eyes
And realized this path to self destruction,
And Dream,
Desire,
And need a correction,
We stand outside in the sun, rain, wind, and snow,
Hoisting up signs of
Peaceful Protest,
The 99%,
We peacefully occupy,
We peacefully pray for change,
We peacefully challenge the
Status-Quo
Of this campaign system,
Of this government,
Of this world,

Those who firmly believe a
Better day
And a brighter future
Is On The Way.
