Wishes

Inspired by Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here."

When I think back to those days

It's like everything was saturated

Color burst from every inch of our universe

We called these colors love

And grasped them like life

Because it was all that kept us from taking it

We were hopelessly depressed

Tragically manic

A handful of lost souls

In the most stunning of fish bowls

Even now I suck in my cheeks and pucker my lips

Fish give the best kisses,

Sloppy

But it's the thought that counts

What an excellent excuse for someone like me.

The first time my lips met anothers

I didn't know what to do with them.

All I felt was the water crashing over my skin,

I was drowning in you.

Each and every one of you.

Occasionally I retrace the shape of my cage

In my head

On paper

Whatever it takes

To remind myself I still have the memories.

You will never understand how desperately I wish to return

To the same grounds

I would throw out the hot ashes of my heart in one beat

If I could trade them for a forest as vast as my love.

Make the atoms of my body into seeds

And spread them across the Earth

So no Matter where you go.

I'll never have to "Wish You Were Here."
