Window Screens

Thu, 01/11/2018 - 14:08 -- 18mckih

you are illuminated by a window screen in the early evening
i can see the gradients in your eyes, but they’re fuzzier, they’re darker
and i think that’s how we are, too

nothing between has ever been seen through an open window,
nothing, nothing, nothing has been honest
and nothing has been clear

the screen surrounding you is a veil of lies and empty words
the screen is disguising you from being the nightmare you are

but if i squint my eyes and focus between the tiny grids,
i can see the light in your green eyes
and if i’m close enough, i can feel your breath on my cheeks

it’ll get darker,
it’ll be night and we’ll sink with the sun

so i’ll take in the sunset now,
and i’ll fall in love through a window screen

in hopes that one day, you will be my open window
