Willow

I sprout from the ground in the midst of spring

I start out small, a pale green sapling

I reach for the sky and breath in the sun

I wave in the wind until day is done

I feel the dirt and root myself deep

I drink up the water, into soil it seeps

I grow and grow reaching for god

I am now one with Earth, part of the sod

My stem grows tall and thick with wood

My branches spread as all trees should

I was there when the factory was built

I saw them pollute and hurt with no guit

I watched the rivers fill with their poison

I watched them bring the fire and noise in

I felt my life starting to fade

Their evil building left me in shade

I couldn't breathe and saw the smoke stacks billow

There was nothing to do, I'm only a willow
