Wild Animal

Close your eyes.

Now feel your heartbeat.

Listen to yourself, breathing

in and out and in and out.

Hear the silence surrounding you.

Feel the water,

Soft to the touch and warm.

Your hair flows about you

And you float, submerged.

You breathe out

And bubbles of air

Bloom.

Your heart pumps

Faster and faster

As you sink away from the light.

Rough bottom touches your feet and

You push, hard and fast

Breaking the surface.

Gulping down air and

Clawing your way up

And out into the sun.

You notice your heart

Flutter, notice your

Craving for air,

Satiated.

Glittering droplets

Of water falling

In slow motion as

He notices you, and

You him.

Your heart is a

Wild animal.

That's why your ribs

Are a cage.
