Why Write?

I write for the words: so wild in my head

That spring to life the moment they're said.

I love a good wordplay, be it weird or profound,

A wittily placed word can always astound.

I write for the 'we' inside of me,

I write for the one I used to be.

I write as one who said 'wide' yet meant 'ride',

I write to express the feelings inside.

When I write, I wield a weapon, one that can win

Win in this war that is raging within.

I wield this weapon because really, I'm weak.

I write to prove that we are ALL weak.

Well, if all goes well, then maybe you'll see,

My writing will show you who I'd like to be.

I write for community, to be welcomed and loved,

I write to prove that I can be loved.

I write to feel I have someone to talk to,

To set in my mind a destination to walk to.

The worlds help me bypass the walls built by others

Because it's human nature to want to reach others.

No matter my reasons to write and to rhyme,

be it proving my worth or just whittlin' the time,

No words can convey what words really mean

Because each mind can find a different meaning to glean.
