Why People Get High- A Theory

Life is a roller coaster as they say,

Especially during the tumultuous teenage days.

School, sports, lessons, it’s what we do,

Sometimes lacking the time for something new.

Doing everything in a mundane way,

Help us break out of this, we hope & pray.

Now I’ve never been high, nor do I plan to,

It’s not even something my close friends would do.

Yet I have this theory, this inkling of a thought,

Where I have searched and found, a rationale that hasn’t been sought.

Perhaps it’s the roller coaster, the metaphor,

That drives people through that drug’s open door.

When life gets tough, they ride the low,

Down and out when everything blows.

Yet it makes sense to me now, why it’s called a high,

So that people can feel something by and by.

They don't want to stay low, stuck in the down,

Who wants to wear a smile flipped into a frown?

That’s just how it seems to go,

The underlying subconscious reason no one knows.

So remember for when our lives are dreary,

This is my “Why People Get High Theory.”
