Why I Stopped Taking Medication For Bipolar

The brain is a magnificent thing

A blessing and a curse

Serotonin, Dopamine, and Norepinephrine

Something wasn't balanced

Depression, mania, and anxiety

The psychiatrist tells me I need medication

Take 3 pills a day

Every day

From now until I die

In conjunction with weekly therapy

Just to be normal

That means

No more suicidal thoughts or extreme anxiety

No more racing thoughts or explosive outbursts

No more top of the  world feelings

No more me.

If being normal means being someone else

I'm willing to risk the side effects

Even if it results in premature death

At least I will have lived a full life

And one that was my own.
