When Others are Broken

Location

When you look at me,

On a normal day

You would see

A girl with eyes as big and green as emeralds,

Filled with hope about the things

She wishes to accomplish.

You would see a smile

Big and vibrant

always shinning, never hiding,

Never leaving her face.

You would see two lips,

lips that never stops,

Never stops giving words of encouragement,

To everyone who need them.

You would see two soft hands,

hands that lift people up

everytime they fall.

You would see a slender figure

One that is fit and young

one that others might desire.

But if you were to look at me

when I was all alone behind a curtain

You would see

A girl with eyes as big and green as emeralds,

pouring rain on the things she can’t fix

You would see, where that smile should be,

nothing.

Nothing shinning, nothing vibrant,

The smile that never leaves her face

has been forced away.

You would see two lips,

lips that keep repeating,

keep repeating one simple question..

Why?

You would see two hands,

hands that appear soft,

but at a closer look,

they are rough and cracked

rough and cracked from all the work

that goes into keeping her family up.

You would see a slender figure,

pulled into a ball of pain,

from the imperfections of the spine,

to the splintered bones of the shin.

But unless you were to see me,

alone behind that curtain,

you would not see

this part of me.

Because it’s not okay.

It’s not okay to fall apart

where people can see

It’s not okay

to crack

When others are crumbling.

Its not okay

to fall down

when others are pushed

over the edge.

It’s not okay

to give up

when you’re the one

others rely on.

It’s not okay

to bend

when others

are broken.
