When I Write
When I write a poem I do it for myself
I do it for a girl or a boy that lives across the world
I do it for my sister
I do it for my brothers
But mostly, like I said, I do it for myself
Because no one else is going to do it for me
I want it to uplift an Indonesian girl who's feeling down
I want it to make an English boy think
I write in an attempt to stitch the gaps in my soul
To cross the chasms in my heart and grab the other side, in the hopes of dragging it back with me and making it whole
There's something inside me that's screaming but I can't hear it clearly
That's why I write
