When I Was That Young

If you asked me to write a letter

To my younger self, what would I tell her?

Not to fall for all the traps I fell for?

To keep changing like tides on the seashore?

But nothing can be gained

From someone who's never changed.

And nothing can be learned

From someone who's never heard-

Don't make the same mistakes that I have made.

Believe in second chances when the world says it's too late.

Don't shy away from the things I never knew.

And maybe my future will look different for you!

I'll warn you now about the road bumps,

Cause no one told me when I was that young.

If you asked me five or six years ago

Where I'd be now, how would I have known?

I couldn't tell you how much I've grown,

And the words I've said and the things I've done!

Cause nothing could be gained

If I was still the same.

And nothing could be learned

From hands that've never burned!

Don't make the same mistakes that I have made.

Believe in second chances when the world says it's too late.

Don't shy away from the things I never knew,

And maybe my future will look different for you!

I'll warn you now about the road bumps,

Cause no one told me when I was that young.

They say " experience is the best teacher ",

And " change comes like the wind ".

If we all knew that when we were weaker,

Then we could find our strength again.

My story's far from over,

And yours has just begun!

Fifteen years of life and learning,

And there's much more to come.

Life is hard, but it's rewarding,

And there's more to be done.

No one ever told me this

When I was that young.
