When He Left

When he left she thought her life was over.

Everything looked gray.

Where there had once been happy children playing in the park,

there was a silence.

Where that had been a man selling balloons,

there were no colors.

And where there had been the love of her life,

there was no one.

The night before he left there was a fight.
Big, bright words that spoke of hate and greed flew out and stuck out to her,

She could no longer see or hear the small, pale words that spoke of love and admiration.

She has told him to leave and not to come back until he had changed.
She knows now that he could never change because he had not come back.

How she wished that it was different.

She wished that she could have seen the small pale words.
She wished that she would not have told him to leave.
She wished that there was some way to speak to the dead.

But there was no way,
And there was no one.
