What Would It Take

The rain falls outside the window
And I’m wondering how much you know
Lord knows I’ve made mistakes
And God knows what it will take
For me to find my place with the rising run
To get where I’m going before I’m done
What would it take?
For a sinner like me,
To find my place
To have Jesus standing next to me
No one told me
It would be this hard
But after all I got this far
Treat each day like your last
And oh Lord knows I need to learn to let go of my past

I really enjoy the structure of this poem--a string of couplets interrupted by a single line: "To find my place." This line has no rhyming line paired with it, and it thereby stands out as the focal point of the poem--and it is a fitting focal point, I think, given the subject matter.
