This Is What The Internet Does To Kids

I am in love with the hipsters.

I guess I’ll use the valencia filter

to show you my meal

and explain how I feel

in every post that you have to deal with...me

Me, it’s all about me

The internet expresses me

liberates me

it shows how my eyebrows on fleek.

Come join my clique.

Hold on I have to take a leek

just thought you should know… internet.

Don't forget

it's Jimmy's birthday

says facebook

not really a book

hold off on the homework

you have bigger priorities than becoming a stoner

don’t do drugs

but say yes to pot

I don’t think you understood

Miley what’s good?

In this poem I wanted to talk about how social media and the internet affect this generation and how we communicate with each other. I wanted to show real live slang that I hear on the internet and find a way to make it rhyme. We had a very easy prompt for the poem: Create a poem that starts with I am. I took this chance to make my poem resonate with the younger generation. I’ve realized that I am a comedic writer. I add a lot of jokes, and sarcasm in my writing and it really reflects on my persona. My favorite lines are “I don’t think you understood. Miley what’s good?” If you don’t know, Miley is a musical artist who is very outspoken and is very controversial around the internet. Recently this year she hosted a Music Awards show where previously in an interview she made a comment regarding another artist Nicki Minaj, Nicki is also a very outspoken artist that is not afraid to call someone out on live television. When Nicki won an award and made her speech she called Miley out on stage to handle the dispute. Nicki’s famous lines after that were “Miley what’s good?” I chose these lines specifically because “Miley what’s good?” is almost like an inside joke for this generation and if there’s a person who missed out on the joke they missed out on my poem. I made it very personal and able to connect with this generation.
