What Happened to Us?

Used to yell at the game shows,
Now we yell at each other.

Used to shoot hoops and skip stones,
Now we shoot texts and skip class.

Used to sign the "Red-Ribbon Pledge"
Now we drink to look "cool."

Used to watch silhouettes in the sun,
Now our shadows are fading.

Our shadows are fading,
and we're missing the chances
that we were promised we'd be able to take.

The chances to grow,
the chances to learn,
the chances to live.

Used to have dreams and ambitions,
But will we achieve them?
