What is the Ghanaian Dream

Location

Ghana

What is the Ghanaian dream, What is it that we pray for

What is the Ghanaian dream, what are we willing to die for

It is but an ideal which is unformed, unclear, unthought

A memory of times of old and stories untold

A fragile whisper in a world of chaos and noise

A silent prayer desperately in need of a voice

Ah but what is in a dream

What is the Ghanaian dream, What is it we strive for

What is the Ghanaian dream, what is it we pray for

is it but an apparition familiar to few but lost to many

or a vision to the chosen few if there remains any

a weak attempt of many at a glimpse of hope

helping the multitude find a way to cope

oh but what is in a dream

Ah but the Ghanaian dream does exist

it can only be seen by the eye of the mind truly enlightened

hidden away unsure like a little child frightened

it can only be heard by ears trained to listen to the ancestors’ whisper

said in the old tongue of our famous trickster

but alas I cannot describe it here

See to try would be to use adages of so much complexity

leaving you lost with such dire perplexity

but let me say thus

let those who have ears hear,

that which i most fear

the message is not for all

but for those with the understanding to implement for all

Ah but i can tell you thus

It is a dream for all of us, by all of us, with all of us in mind

A dream created by many, through many left behind

It is our past, our present, our future

It is seen as much in the student as in the teacher

but it can only be seen, heard, discussed by the true Ghanaian

the secret is to stay true

and in time we will see this dream come true
