What Does that Say?

What does that say?

A foolish question.

Why foolish when asked in innocence?

I knew no better..

It was a time to teach me, not chastise me

and call me racist.

How was I to know what it was?

How was I to know what it was not?

There was no safe question, just incriminating ones.

And I have been tried, and I have been found guilty.

But I'm innocent.

Sometimes it is like walking on the edge of a knife,

and the weight of the questions cut me deep.

So I take a risk and try to learn by asking.

But then you push me down until all I can do is bleed.

It was a time to teach me, not chastise me

and call me racist.
