Weekend in May

Location

Embraced in warm water,
supported by thighs,
I don’t remember
what you said.
Truly smiling,
truly thinking that I would
easily
spend forever with you.
Questioned,
as though you were amused
yet afraid of the answer.
Hands pressed against your chest.
Looked right in the eye
and said everything I felt
in the fewest amount of words.
You sat up,
wrapped me in your arms,
pulled me tight,
and pressed those same words
against my red lips.
