We Woke Up

Remember when we used to go to the playground and swing for hours never stopping,

going higher and higher till we almost flew over the rails?

Remember when it was the best thing in the world to sit around watching reruns of your favorite shows on one of our couches drinking soda?

Remember when all you wanted to be when you grew up was like mommy or daddy,

maybe live in the city and be the greatest star ever?

Then we woke up from our dream.

The playground was empty, the swings barely touched by toddlers.

Can you believe we wanted to sit and watch tv rather than grow up?

Be like mommy when mommy is on drugs and daddy can't be found?

We woke up and Realized that becoming that bid star will never happen because you have no talent at least.....that's what everyone else seems to think.

Its so hard trying to remember the last time you preferred soda over vodka because soda doesn't make you forget the pain as well.

Can you believe we really did sit on those swings, wanted to watch reruns and drink soda?

Even wanted to be like our parents for a time?

But we had to wake up. We has to wake up and see the world on the inside not just the out.

It may look nice and cheerful happy as can be but its cold out here in the world and sometimes I'm happy I woke up.

I know that its not unicorns and sugarpops all around but, there are times I wish I was oblivious to dull gray cold heartedness of the place we call home.

There are the young ones wo haven't become of age to wake up yet but still do because there is no other option.

Then we have the ones who have aged a bit but refuse to wake up.

I guess they want to hold on to their innocence a bit longer.

That I can understand.

Friend we woke up a long time ago but you handled it differently than I.

So differently that you were dreaming again just a different dream.

I only wonder when you will wake up this time.
