We Wish

As children,
We wish to be older,
To be special and pretty and handsome.
We wish to fall on our knees when things are not going our way.
We think life is all for us.

Now as young adults,
We wish to be little,
That time was not so slippery.
We wish to remember what it was like before our legs grew too long,
And those moments between kindergarten and senior year.
We wish that life was for us.
We wish that life was not so complicated with guys and gals,
And that it could be like before when boys and girls had cooties.

Now, as inexperienced and adultish as I am,
I would not ask to be any older or any younger than the people I've grown up with.
Because age does not make life any easier or any harder...
It just makes everything how it has always been.
