We Once Were Pure

We once painted pictures with the clouds in the sky

We once painted goals in the recesses of our minds

We once had vast dreams of unicorns with bows

We once had vast hopes that involved several tomorrows

We were once untainted, undamaged, unblemished and pure

We once were children playing tag in the rain

We once were ignorant with no comprehension of pain

We once were innocent then we learned about sex

We once were naïve then we witnessed death

We were once untainted, undamaged, unblemished and pure

We once could climb trees up as far as the sky

We once could conquer any troubling lie

We once held friendships precious and cherished

We once held love polished and flourished

We were once untainted, undamaged, unblemished, and pure
