Waves

Have you ever been hit by waves?
There's so many kinds I know I have.

Waves in nature
Waves of water sent by the ocean to tell you it's there.
Crashing on the beach and toppling laughing children over.
Waves of chill when the cold air hit your face.
Waves of heat that touch your skin as you lap up melting ice cream trying to stay cool.

Waves of sound
Filling silent air into something spectacular.
Music and words swirling around.
The voice of person ringing out with important things to say.
The crashing of glass hitting the floor and cracking loudly.
Wind howling to remind you that though you can't see it. They are there.
The sound of drums beating in time with your heart and breathing.

Waves of emotion
Sometimes it's the smack in the face when words have wounded you.
It may be the sudden spill of years from news so terrible you can't bear to hear.
The sudden laughing you can't control as you remember something funny.
The blushing of cheeks when they complement you.
The smile of seeing someone you've missed dearly.

Waves are all around us.
Which ones hit you?
