Watch Me Fly

there was a time once when my legs were broken
I crawled too fast so you had to hold me
while I was growing you were still holding
while I was supposed to be learning you still kept holding
others crawled and stood
then walked and talked
then ran and laughed
you tried to put me down at times
afraid I would fall you picked me back up
I still was growing but nowhere was I going
I thought I was just too weak but now I see
its time for me to speak
I need you to let me down
I am strong enough
and need to walk, to stand, to run
I should be running and laughing
you can sit me down
I am no longer so weak
I can stand by myself
its time I go
on my own
so here I go
its time to find me
its getting to the point my wings are starting to break free
I have grown my wings
please don't try and break them or take them from me
they are beautiful you see
you helped make them with me
put me down and guide me
watch me fly while im here
but trust me
love me
let me be me
know that when I leave out those doors
because you let me learn to fly
when the time comes
I shale soar
against all odds of this world
you can wipe away
the tear when it appears
the beautiful young woman
with long strong legs
and large bold wings
is the product of the same
little girl those years ago
that was too weak to
stand on her own
now is my time
Daddy watch me fly
