The Warmth That Hurts

I see the fire spitting
& all the people running away
But I get closer and closer
To see what it has to say

Never will it burn me
Because I am of great importance
At least until I’m replaced temporarily
Another warmed during my force absence

At first it was only I that could put up with your flames
Understand your games
Listen to your claims
Tell you at which souls to throw the blames

But then another felt they could handle it all
You made them fire proof
On the shelf with me
A new toy to handle the truth

This saddens me
& I don’t know if I’ll be there when your flames get high
You’re out of oxygen
& about to die

I should’ve expected this
I played with the fire
I was sucked in
Now I’m hurt by the liar
