Waking Up After The Fall

You have the most inviting eyes,

sweetest smile, kindest look about you.

I want to trust you so badly.

Something about your arms makes me think,

you could hold me close,

chase away the nightmares

with a flick of your finger.

You could make the nights more bearable.

You could make the days more fun.

Just looking at you makes me smile,

hearing you makes me laugh,

makes me fall further.

But I don’t want to fall.

Eventually, there’s a ground somewhere.

And I can’t see it in this darkness.

It’s going to sneak up on me, it has to.

One moment, I’ll feel the wind whistling

past me as I’m in free fall,

the next thing I’ll feel will be the crack.

I’m not ready to hit the ground again.
