Wailing Heart of The Ocean
With mixed
And
Mottled emotions
We sail
wayward ships
Out from seagull
Encrusted shores
Across a beating
Ocean, hissing like
vipers
That
We invite
Crawling into bed
With us
Just to wake
Hungover
in a squall;
Salt
Stinging
Our eyes
Like the sandy heat
That hangs
Like the hang men's noose
Upon Death Valley.
The crew sang
Away
Haul away
We haul away joe!
As the waves
Besieged the
Starboard
With vigor only
Akin
To
Conscious beasts
Until the man on the mast
Hanging
By a thread
Onto his life line
Bellowed
Below
There she blows!
And set
A thousand
Bleary eyes
Upon
A leviathan
Breaking
Back
A swell
Of over fifteen feet,
Spraying water
In a steamy hush
Like a sinuous
Lump
Of veiny muscle
And rippling mass
Contorting in hate
As Poseidon
Spat back at the black
Wall
Of a sky
Palpating
With veins of lighting
And sweating a
Deluge
Of
Rain.
The boats
Flooded
With a motley merging
Of men
From tossers
To professionals
All climbed down
Slowly
Towards the vengeful
Vortex
Of gritty waters.
Paddling like Vikings
Towards a
Horde of gold
The first of men
Unlashed the
Crude irons
And sent them upon the
Sea!
The black waters churned
And smacked with
Rage and fear
As the
God
Became
Naught
But
Blood in the water.
Soon a boat or two
Was wrecked
Like fresh timber
From a white hammer
Upon a
Black anvil.
The white heart
Of the
Ocean
Wouldn't be
Beaten
So
Soon! She sang
A Battle cry
And quickly devoured
Boat After Boat after boat
Until just one remained
Rolling haphazardly
On roaring winds
Of hell's half acre
As the heart beat slowly
Stopped
Thrashing
And sharks took
To the water
Bled out
Just one short.
The crew quickly hauled
It
Up and over
Into wayward ships
With the heart
Of the sea
Holden up
In the cargo bay,
As dead as dead
Could be.
We made our fortune
Back on the dock
And set about
Quickly
Pissing it
Away
Then set assail
Onto
The
Briny
Sea.
