Voyage

I am off

on a journey of self discovery

My mirror serves as both

passport and ticket

Start in the north

Locks of hair stick together

weaving through each other as if through traffic

flashing highlights of ginger, gold, and light brown

Curls frizz wildly in all directions

(Mimicking the ecstatic brain churning underneath)

Skip over the billboard forehead

ignoring the questions printed there

My eyes dance lightly over a freckled nose

Travel east

One ear is slightly reddened from

a recent cartilage piercing

and a stray blonde ringlet hangs

down the right side of my face

Move south

My neck is softer than it used to be

Collarbones intersect with rounded shoulders

Random birthmarks and moles

trip along the ridges of my spine

Continue along your current course

Red lightning bolts

exotic tiger stripes

grace my sides and legs

My farmer's tan is accentuated

by the dress I have chosen to wear today

The vivid green, bird-print fabric hovers

lightly over the columns of my legs

Longing to fly away

You have arrived.
