Voices

Thank you for the voices,

the ones that won't let me sleep at night,

the ones that keep crying out to me, "listen to me, listen to me."

Thank you for the voice,

the one that keeps my head down,

the one that lets me blend into the crowd, so I'm not the one that sticks out.

Thank you for the voice,

the one that tells me to hide,

the one that tells me "you'll never measure up, why bother even trying."

Thank you for the voice,

the one that listens instead,

the one that cuts my tongue, before I relinquish all my secrets.

Thank you for the voice,

the one that drops my tears,

the one that lets me feel sadness, instead of mind-numbing apathy.

Thank you voices,

for keeping me whole,

for letting me keep all parts of me,

for letting me keep you, my voices.
