The Voice of Reason

"Stand up," they say,"Stand up and fight. You don't know what,It's like to brawl,If you haven't fought for your dying days.So stand up, stand up and fight." "But I try," you protest," I really do.They can't defeat me if I never lose." "You have lost, long ago-Your dignity, your pride, your voice of reason;Don't loose yourself too.You scoff at this matter,Yet you know it is true.Don't loose yourself too." You laugh at them-I won't I won't!-Yet you hear the truth in their words, You ignore them; what's done is done-You've fed the birds. They hear the annoyance in I your voice,The ugly tone you use. They quiet about you, Instead talking about the latest news. Years past, and you grow,Owning a shop,on the sea side,Where many stop.Your life shoots up,Like a flower sprout. The worry lines lessen; The tears cease to come.Life is good. And only you know why,As you look a at you voice of reason.
