Vietnam War
Location
They've shined our fancy shoes,
and sewn patches on our blues.
They've cleaned our combat boots,
and ironed some brand new suits.
They've shaved hair off our head
and taught us to sleep with no bed.
They sent us off to war,
on the coast of a foreign shore.
We fought side by side,
with comrades nationwide.
We spent years losing friends,
seeing death be their ends.
Now we're back to our great land,
sort of expecting a helping hand.
Instead you rally and shout,
and we don't control what you're mad about.
We've served our country, and done what was told,
but when we return, your hearts are cold.
We've risked so much for you this year,
and your ungratefulness is quite clear.
What we ask of you today,
is not to expand our pay.
But show us the respect we've deserved,
for patriotism needs to be conserved!
