This is Us

This is us,

Will you accept us as is?

Us, with our innumerable flaws,

Our intolerable actions,

Our inhuman violence,

The feats that make nations quake,

And we are despicable to ourselves,

Hated in our own realms,

Yet the fright of others keeps us in power

Your fear feeds our appetite

We hunger for your loss,

And devour the scavenged meals

So provided for us,

Yet our own power makes us weak

The method of our power is our downfall

We will crash, and bury

Many beneath us when we collapse

We became too large for our purpose,

And our motive was skewed by generations of deceit

We deserved to crumble, and

So many were surprised

But many more were not

The honest ones were not impressed,

They had been waiting for a long time

Toast us in the future

As the destroyers, the man-crushers,

The idea-makers, the hope-breakers,

The once-dreamers, the empire-rulers

We may be long gone, but our ruins will

Stay for generations

Remember us

Remember us with fear,

Remember us with respect,

Remember us with love,

This is us

This is U.S.
