Unseen Wounds

They only fester in the silence.

Time is ticking.

We should stop being quiet

Because all they can do is fester in the silence.

The longer they fester, the worse the pain.

Time is ticking.

We should be ashamed

Because despite our love, we're prolonging the pain.

The pain numbs to make way for resentment.

Time is ticking.

We should get the hint

Because pain chokes, but I'm afraid of resentment.

Resentment leads to more silence, where the words only fester.

Time is ticking.

We've almost lost her.

Because we didn't speak at first

And just pushed them to the side,

The words festered on

And the chances we had are gone.
