The Universe

Maybe we were meant to fly around in circles

To never move towards

Or forwards.

Maybe we were meant to live alone

To never meet

To never discover.

The universe is funny like that,

Always trying to control

What cannot be controlled.

It pushes and pulls

Makes it difficult

Breaks apart.

It is all about control.

We broke the bond,

The string that connects.

We undid the tight rope

That bound us by our necks.

The rattling chains

That tethered our feet to the ground.

We were a cosmic explosion,

One that the universe

Didn't see coming.

A collision,

A sparkling of lights,

A surprise.

We never flew in circles,

But in straightaways.

We flew faster than the wind.

We collided,

And the universe couldn't stop us.
