Tumultuous Soul

As portward bound I wandered

I beheld an endless sea.

I halted and I pondered

Its tumultuous infinity.

The endless turquoise heights

With their dulling sapphire blues,

Turned their crested heads to flight,

In a deathly crashing muse.

The toss’d, restless, churning water

Revealed darkest canyon deeps;

Ocean’s cloak fell from her,

Unveilt soul that never sleeps.

Yet amidst the wailing rains

Remained a siren’s song,

A subtle tune that feigns

The loud terror of the gong.

And underneath the foam that flung,

While the waves incessantly pound,

The melody of the soul is sung

And the well of self is found.
